William Ladusaw, Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate EducationThe Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor and works directly with the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor to provide the leadership and coordination for academic programs in the colleges, and planning, organization, and management of academic support programs. Responsibilities include: Advising - Provides academic oversight and conceptual guidance for the campus advising website, convenes annual advising conferences, coordinates the activities of the college and departmental advisers. Has authority over the college advising budget. Is a lead member of the campus summer orientation and advising policy committee. Colleges and College Provosts – Serves as Chair of the Council of Provosts, formal supervisor and liaison to the provosts. Provides leadership in articulating the evolving academic role of the colleges. Works closely with the provosts in undertaking campuswide projects to improve the undergraduate experience. Represents the provosts on the campuswide committees. Coordinates provost searches and conducts provost reviews. College Eight, College Nine, College Ten, Cowell College, Crown College, Kresge College, Merrill College, Oakes College, Porter College, Stevenson College Ladusaw also works closely with each college provost to improve the undergraduate experience, and he represents the provosts on campuswide committees. His office also is responsible for planning, organization, and management of academic support services and programs, including student advising and the use of technology. Undergraduate Honors and Awards - The Coordinator of Undergraduate Honors and Awards provides a broad range of support in managing policies and activities that support and recognize undergraduate student academic achievement in a variety of areas including: Development of undergraduate honors programs; Management of undergraduate recognition events such as Student Achievement Week; Support for Phi Beta Kappa and other honors societies; Support for Regent’s Scholars activities and the Karl S. Pister Leadership Opportunity Program and recognition events; Support selection of nominees for external prestigious scholarships and fellowships, working with students and faculty advisors - as well as for the Deans' and Chancellor's Awards, which are presented during Student Achievement Week; Works with the relevant committees of the Academic Senate, Admissions, Registrar, and academic units. Academic Senate Liaison – Ladusaw is liaison to the campus Academic Senate's Committee on Educational Policy and Committee on Teaching, and represents UCSC within the larger University of California system on issues concerning undergraduate education. He also provides administrative liaison with the Committee on Educational Policy in matters of curriculum and course requirements, and works with the Committee on Teaching in creating teaching improvements and faculty development programs. The Vice Provost oversees several units on campus:
Academic Programs – Oversees general education issues and coordinates curricula among departments and colleges to enhance undergraduate education. Works closely with the Deans and Provosts to develop undergraduate academic programs designed to maintain excellence, to sustain and enhance student diversity, and to increase the retention and graduation rates of all UCSC undergraduates. UC Office of the President and Intersegmental Coordination – Represents UCSC in diverse matters concerning undergraduate education at the UC systemwide level. Serves as liaison for programs involving high schools and community colleges. Accreditation Liaison Officer – Serves as the campus accreditation liaison officer (ALO) for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Instructional Computing – Oversees the academic uses of new technologies at UCSC. Consults the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable (TLTR) for advice on issues at the intersection of education and technology. Draws on the resources of Information Technology Services (ITS) and Media Services in formulating programs for the enhanced use of information technology for instruction. Provides leadership with respect to distance learning and technologically mediated instruction.
